Best beaches in Skopelos

Skopelos's best beaches sit mostly along the sheltered south and west coasts, where pine forest runs down to a mix of sand, fine shingle and pebble. The east coast is wilder and less developed, with a handful of beaches reachable only by dirt track or boat.

The west coast classics

Kastani, Milia and Panormos form the core of most people's beach list. Kastani is the famous Mamma Mia sands, smaller than its neighbour Milia but arguably prettier, with pine reaching almost to the shore. Milia is the longest beach on the island, split by a rocky outcrop into a busier organised half and a quieter stretch. Panormos offers calm, sheltered water and the most amenities in one place, including a beach bar scene that runs into the evening.

Near Skopelos Town

Stafylos, about 4km from Chora, is the easiest beach to combine with a town-based stay, with sunbeds, a taverna and a short, steep path down from the parking area. From the eastern end of Stafylos, a footpath leads to Velanio, the island's clothing-optional beach and a quieter alternative with good snorkelling.

Quieter alternatives

Limnonari, reached by a winding road or a coastal path from Agnontas, sits in a near-perfect horseshoe bay with calm, deep-blue water. Hovolo, near Neo Klima, is smaller and less visited, framed by white cliffs and dense pine.

  • Kastani — the Mamma Mia beach, pine-backed sand, gets busy by midday
  • Milia — the island's longest beach, organised on one side, quieter on the other
  • Stafylos — closest organised beach to Skopelos Town
  • Velanio — clothing-optional, reached on foot from Stafylos
  • Limnonari — sheltered horseshoe bay with calm water
  • Panormos — most amenities, lively beach-bar atmosphere

Practical notes

A car or scooter is the easiest way to reach most of these; the summer bus service from Skopelos Town covers Stafylos, Agnontas, Panormos, Milia and Kastani but runs on a limited schedule. Parking at Kastani and Milia fills up by mid-morning in July and August, and the final stretch of road to Kastani is unpaved.
