Where to stay in Skopelos

Skopelos doesn't have one obvious base. Skopelos Town offers the most restaurants, the ferry and bus connections, and a genuine old-town atmosphere. Panormos and the west-coast beach villages suit a beach-first stay. Glossa, on the northwest hill above Loutraki port, is the quiet, traditional option with the best sunset views on the island.

Skopelos Town (Chora)

The island's capital and largest settlement, with most of the restaurants, bars, shops and both major ferry connections close by. It's the easiest base for first-time visitors and for anyone without a car, since the local bus network radiates out from here. The town beaches (Ammos and Plaka) are modest; day trips to Stafylos or Kastani cover the swimming.

Panormos and the west coast

Panormos sits roughly halfway between Skopelos Town and Glossa, right on its own sheltered beach, with a cluster of tavernas and the island's only Blue Flag beach (Adrina) nearby. Staying here puts Milia and Kastani within a short drive, at the cost of being further from Chora's nightlife and restaurant variety.

Glossa and Loutraki

Glossa is Skopelos's second-largest settlement, built on a hillside above its port of Loutraki, with sweeping views toward Skiathos and some of the best sunsets on the island. It's noticeably quieter than Skopelos Town, with fewer restaurants but a stronger sense of an actual village rather than a resort. The trade-off is distance: the main beaches are a 20–40 minute drive away.

Agnontas and Stafylos

Agnontas is a small fishing port on the southwest coast, within easy reach of Limnonari and Panormos. Stafylos, just outside Skopelos Town, puts you within walking distance of one of the island's most popular beaches and the path to Velanio.

  • Beach-first stay: Panormos or the area around Milia and Kastani
  • Quiet and traditional: Glossa, for views and a slower pace
  • Compact, beach-adjacent: Stafylos or Agnontas
