Hovolo beach

Hovolo is a smaller, less-visited beach near the village of Neo Klima (also called Elios), set beneath white cliffs and surrounded by dense pine forest. It’s the kind of beach travellers find on their second or third visit to the island rather than their first, once they’ve already covered the bigger names.

The vibe

Quiet and intimate compared to the major west-coast beaches, with crystalline turquoise water and a noticeably relaxed atmosphere even at the height of summer. Locals and longer-staying visitors tend to favour it precisely because it rarely appears on the standard must-see lists.

Access and parking

Reached via the road through Neo Klima, with limited but generally manageable parking given the beach’s smaller crowds. There’s no dedicated bus stop, so a car, scooter, or taxi is the most practical way in.

Amenities

Facilities are lighter here than at Panormos or Milia — pack your own shade, water and snacks if you want a full day rather than a quick swim. The lack of infrastructure is precisely what keeps this beach calmer than its better-known neighbours.

Best time

Hovolo rarely feels crowded, so timing matters less here than at the island’s headline beaches; any time of day works, though the white cliffs cast useful afternoon shade over part of the cove, which is worth knowing if you’re sensitive to direct midday sun.

Nearby route

Neo Klima village is a short walk away for a coffee or light lunch, and the wider stretch of west-coast beaches around Milia and Kastani is a short drive further south.
