Velanio beach
Velanio sits just beyond Stafylos, reached on foot over a small rocky headland, and is the island’s recognised clothing-optional beach. It draws a quieter, more relaxed crowd than its busier neighbour, despite being only a short walk away. The pine forest backing the bay keeps much of the shoreline in dappled shade for part of the day, a welcome break from full sun.
The vibe
A sheltered, pine-backed bay with clearer water than Stafylos and a noticeably calmer atmosphere — fewer families, more long, unhurried beach days. Naturism is accepted but not obligatory; both styles of sunbathing coexist without friction, and visitors are generally left to their own preferences without comment.

Access and parking
There’s no direct road access. The only way in is the roughly 10–15 minute footpath from the eastern end of Stafylos beach, over the headland where the tomb of Prince Staphylos was found. Sturdy sandals make the rockier sections of the path easier going.
Amenities
Facilities are minimal by design: a small beach bar in season, but no sunbed operation on the scale of Stafylos. Most visitors bring their own towel and shade, and the absence of heavy infrastructure is part of what keeps the atmosphere relaxed.
Best time
Because it’s walk-in only, Velanio rarely feels as crowded as Stafylos even in August — arriving by mid-morning is usually enough to find space, and the walk itself tends to filter out anyone unwilling to make the short effort.
Nearby route
The same footpath connects back to Stafylos for the beach bar, taverna and easier road access when you’re ready to leave.
