How long to spend on Skopelos depends on whether it’s a day trip from Skiathos, a standalone island holiday, or one stop on a Sporades hop. One day: the highlights run

Arrive early, head straight to Skopelos Town for a walk up to the kastro, then drive the coast road to Kastani or Milia for a swim. If time allows, fit in Agios Ioannis Kastri before catching an evening ferry back. This is a tight day and works best with your own car or a private tour rather than relying on the bus.

Three days: town, beaches, and the chapel

Day one in Skopelos Town and Stafylos/Velanio. Day two on the west coast: Panormos, Milia, Kastani. Day three for Agios Ioannis Kastri and Glossa, finishing with sunset from Glossa’s hillside.

Five days: add the inland island

With five days you can slow down: a morning hike to the Mount Palouki monasteries, an afternoon at a quieter beach like Limnonari or Hovolo, and a half-day around Agnontas and Amarantos following the Mamma Mia opening-scene locations.

Seven days: a full Sporades trip

A week supports a day trip to Alonissos and its marine park, plus enough slack to revisit a favourite beach or wait out a windy day. This is also enough time to add Skiathos at either end for a contrast in pace — livelier nightlife and the airport on one side, the quieter pace of Skopelos and Alonissos on the other.

Where you stay shapes how the days unfold. Basing in Skopelos Town keeps every itinerary length simple, since the bus network and most day-trip boats start there. Basing further out, in Panormos or Glossa, works better for longer stays where you’re happy to centre your days around the beaches nearest your room rather than commuting back and forth across the island.
