Yachts anchored in a clear turquoise cove

Limnonari beach

Limnonari sits in a tightly enclosed, near-perfect horseshoe bay about 8km southwest of Skopelos Town, just northwest of Agnontas. The shape of the bay keeps the water unusually calm, which makes it one of the better swimming beaches on the island for anyone uneasy about waves, including families travelling with younger children.

The vibe

A mix of sand and fine shingle, with steep green hills rising around the bay and transparent, deep-blue water that gets deep fairly quickly close to shore. The enclosed shape gives it a slightly more private, intimate feel than the longer, more open beaches further along the coast.

Access and parking

By road, the final approach is a steep, winding track from the main coast road; alternatively, a roughly 1.5km coastal footpath connects Limnonari to Agnontas for those without a car. Parking near the beach is limited and fills early in peak season, so an early arrival or the coastal walk is the more reliable option in July and August.

Amenities

A couple of summer tavernas with sunbed rental, one of them with its own small pool, plus the option of swim shoes for the stonier sections of the entry. The bay is also a favourite anchorage for small yachts and pleasure craft passing along the coast.

Best time

Because the bay is so enclosed, Limnonari stays calm even when other beaches get wind-affected — a reliable backup on a breezy day, and a good choice for less confident swimmers thanks to the gentle, sheltered water.
