Panormos Beach, Skopelos

Panormos is the largest beach on Skopelos — a wide, sheltered bay of grey-white pebbles and turquoise water about 12km from Skopelos Town on the west coast. It’s the best choice for families and those who want facilities without full resort infrastructure.

The beach

The bay curves in a gentle arc for around 500 metres. The pebbles are medium-sized and smooth — more comfortable underfoot than many Greek beaches, though water shoes still help at the shoreline. Entry into the sea is gradual by Skopelos standards; the bottom stays shallow for 8-10 metres, making this one of the better options for children. The water is calm because the bay faces west-southwest and is protected from the meltemi. On most summer days you can swim without any swell.

Facilities

Sun loungers and umbrellas are available for hire along much of the beach. Several tavernas sit at the back of the bay — Taverna Panormos and Adrina are both established options serving grilled fish, Greek salads, and cold drinks. Rooms and small apartments to rent are clustered around the bay. A small general store operates in season. There are toilets and outdoor showers.

  • Sun loungers and umbrellas: available, priced around €8–12 per set per day
  • Tavernas: multiple, open from mid-morning to late evening in season
  • Accommodation: rooms, studios, and apartments directly above the beach
  • Parking: unpaved area behind the beach, free
  • Bus stop: on the main road above the beach, seasonal service from Skopelos Town

Why it stands out

Panormos is the reliable choice — the beach that delivers what it promises regardless of weather, age, or expectation. The combination of calm water, facilities, and a genuine taverna setting (you eat looking directly at the sea, not at a pool) makes it work for couples, families, and solo travellers alike. It’s a natural base for exploring the Milia and Kastani coves nearby.

Practical tips

  • Arrive before 10am in July and August to secure sun loungers and parking
  • The best snorkelling is at the left edge of the bay where rocks create an underwater shelf
  • Kastani is a 15-minute walk over the headland to the right — worth combining
  • The track down from the main road is paved but narrow; drive slowly
  • Milia is a 1.5km drive south — budget a full day for both beaches
